When you first get your leather furniture it's advisable to use a leather protector that will keep spills from seeping into the piece and causing stains. It's much easier to prevent the stains upfront, than to try and clean them up afterwards. If you are thinking about bringing a piece of furniture made of leather into your home, make sure you are brining that piece into an environment where it will thrive and remain as beautiful as the first time you saw the furniture.
Make sure you use the appropriate water-based soap. Furthermore, believe it or not the preferred type would be foam-based cleaners that most people who own leather furniture nowadays would use.
Saddle cleaner would not be suitable for most types of modern-day leathers. For the most part it is way too harsh, but of course it would depend upon the type. To be on the safe side, avoid it or test it on a hidden piece of fabric before applying it to the entire living room sofa furniture set.
Do not use any cleaners that contain silicone, which numerous ordinary leather polishes do. Some of them that are just pure oil may work, but also use these with sparingly. The reason why is because many of them include ingredients that would at some point damage your entire leather collection.
Leather furniture is not a fan of sitting in direct sunlight. While you may want to make sure it's well-lit so everyone can see it, make sure it's artificial lighting that's shining onto your leather or else you may soon find you have a piece of furniture you don't like. Sunlight can lighten the color of your leather or make it dry out and start to crack. Remember, leather is skin, even if it is on a piece of furniture, and may well act accordingly. If the temperature in a room is too hot or cold for your skin, it's also too hot or cold for the leather and may adversely affect it. You should also keep leather away from places where the temperatures may shift quickly, such as in front of the heater or air conditioner. Leather has oil in it. The trick is maintaining the oil level in leather. When it comes to leather furniture, the best way to do that is to not mess with it. If you alter the oils in leather, you won't fix it. Leather can't regenerate natural oils. You should not use oil based soaps and cleaners that may leave too much oil in the piece. You should also not use soap or detergent cleaners, as they could take the oils out of the leather. Losing the oils it needs can speed up the drying and cracking process.
One very important tips regarding what NOT to do is this: Do NOT use baby wipes on leather! This actually-believe it or not-one of the worst errors you can make. Leather skin is in no way like a baby's bottom so it will not at all achieve the desired result. All you will do is end up ruining your living room sofa furniture.
Also, realise that if you use fairy liquid (dish detergent) it can corrode finish of your leather upholstery. It is not recommended, as it is the salts added to these dish soaps that cause a fair amount of problems. Please use recommended soaps for this purpose.
Contrary to popular belief, it seems as though oils can actually prevents re-hydration of the leather surface. That is why water -based cleaning solutions are most often recommended.
As you wipe each leather piece, make a point not to use an overabundant amount of water or this can also impair your living room sofa furniture investment. Drenching it can cause it to wear out or become damaged much faster.
Damp cloth dipped in the preferred soap solution while caring for your leather living room furniture is most recommended. There is really no other best way to clean your leather living room collection.
